The charitable initiative of one of the most attractive women’s tennis tournaments in this part of Europe will fund the creation of a modern, interactive classroom for pupils who require adapted learning conditions.
As part of this year’s charitable initiative, the WTA Makarska Open team donated seven thousand euros to the Osnovna škola oca Petra Perice primary school in Makarska. The donation will fund the complete refurbishment and equipping of a special needs classroom, including modern interactive equipment, a smart board and other resources that support pupils in their everyday learning and development.
The donation was presented to school principal Renata Gudelj by tournament director Feliks Lukas, organisational team director Tajna Lukas Rečić, and Makarska Mayor Zoran Paunović.
Principal Gudelj emphasised that the special needs department is a vital support for pupils with greater educational needs, and that the new equipment and refurbished space will enable higher quality, individualised and interactive learning.
“We sincerely thank the organisers of the WTA Makarska Open for recognising our needs and supporting our school and our pupils, among whom there are surely future tennis players,” said the principal.
HUMANITY, EDUCATION AND SPORT — AN IMPORTANT SYNERGY FOR THE LOCAL COMMUNITY
Makarska Mayor Zoran Paunović praised the initiative of the WTA Makarska Open hosted by Valamar team and highlighted the importance of investing in sport, children and educational institutions:
“Sport and humanity share the same values — dedication, community and the desire to help those who need it most.
The WTA Makarska Open’s donation is a beautiful example of how a major sporting event can connect with the local community and leave a lasting legacy,” highlighted the Makarska Mayor.
WTA Makarska Open director Feliks Lukas said that supporting the local community is an important part of the tournament’s mission.
“The Makarska tournament is not just a sporting event — it is a platform that brings together athletes, business people, cultural figures and all people of goodwill, and drives positive change. This year we chose to support the Osnovna škola oca Petra Perice and provide its pupils with a space where they will feel encouraged, included and safe. We are happy when we can help others and demonstrate one of sport’s most important roles — doing good.”
